Surface

My last entry was back in November - a short piece titled “Pause” that predicted a pause in writing as well as America’s changing tide. Five months later, in the shadow of autocracy and dissent, lives have been upended, institutions gutted or erased, citizens cast into fear, resistance or jubilation depending on what they believe.

We document our descent - newscasts, podcasts, headlines that scream a warning. Some hold to a larger beneficent plan while others warn of plain old fascism. America reinventing itself once again or hostage to a shuckster. The geopolitical world tilts; predictions ricochet from wide-eyed optimism to despair. Incompetence in plain sight yet we’re asked to pretend.

Meanwhile, I surface to the beauty of our world - thin veined leaves, soft skin of a dog’s underbite, blossoms held fast against the rain.
